Title IX of the Education Amendments Act of 1972 is a federal law that states: "No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance."
The Office of Civil Rights and Title IX at LSUS is committed to cultivating an environment for the University community, educated in Civil Rights and Title IX compliance, that is safe, comfortable, free from sexual misconduct, harassment, and discrimination, and is conducive for optimum learning. LSUS prohibits sex-based harassment and discrimination, including sexual misconduct (e.g., dating/domestic violence, sexual assault, sexual harassment, stalking, retaliation, and power-based violence). The Office of Civil Rights and Title IX educates the campus community on Title IX and sexual misconduct policies through training, awareness, and prevention efforts; assists individuals in navigating the complaint process; provides prompt and effective resolution to Title IX concerns; connects students with supportive services both on- and off-campus; promotes prevention and intervention of sexual assault; provides educational outreach and training on Civil Rights and Title IX topics; and provides accommodations to pregnant and parenting students.

What do I do if I see a risky situation unfolding to prevent and de-escalate potentially violent incidents?
The Office of Civil Rights and Title IX communicates student and employee rights and responsibilities through training and outreach. Outreach initiatives cover topics such as:
LSU Shreveport is committed to supporting pregnant and parenting students. In alignment with Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, LSUS provides accommodations for students based on pregnancy, childbirth, false pregnancy, miscarriage, termination of pregnancy, or related conditions, including recovery. Pregnant and parenting students are encouraged to arrange reasonable accommodations by working directly with their faculty members.
LSU Shreveport offers a private lactation room (University Center, Room 217) for nursing mothers. The room has a lock, electrical outlets, sink, and comfortable seating. Refrigeration/storage is not provided.
